iTunes Festival – Roundhouse, Camden – Ben Howard & Hozier
I was lucky enough to attend the iTunes Festival last night (24-09-14). I was even luckier to find out the line up was Hozier and Ben Howard. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control (read this as drinking & queues) we missed Hozier. However, we managed to make it in for the entire Ben Howard set.
The Roundhouse in Camden is a pretty cool venue, obviously it’s round which gives a great feeling to the gig. The high celling carries sound well, and it also means it doesn’t get that sweaty hot in there. We placed ourselves so we could see the stage and also conveniently close to the bar (you can tell this night ended in an extreme hangover.) I am a massive Ben Howard fan, Every Kingdom is a fantastic album but to be honest I hadn’t listened to his new music. Well, that was a mistake as that was all he played. We got 8 songs and not a single oldie.
There is no denying Ben Howard has an amazing voice, but he didn’t really think through his set in my opinion. A couple of his hits from his Brit Award winning album would have made the night. I’m excited to listen to his new music and let it grow on me as his old album did. I wouldn’t hesitate to see him again but hopefully he takes on board the seemingly unanimous opinion that some old stuff is always wanted.
